VERY RARE MIATURE CRUCIFIX
South German, 16th century

From the collection of the margraves and grand dukes of Baden, liquidated in 1995 and auctioned by Sotheby’s. In massive gold and with multicoloured enamel “ronde bosse” with its original pearl pendant. The extraordinary fine worked and very small crucifix has already been mentioned in 1745 in the context of a heritage in the family archive of the margraves and grand dukes of Baden. In the official order cited Karl Koelitz 1883 from the family archive of the grand duke, fifth person, 28, the crucifix as inventory number 3419 in the following way (in English approximately): “Haubt-Consignation about everything that went to the landlord in memory of lady margrave Magdalena Wilhelmina Höchstseel in the following categories with the distribution by fortune: jewellery, jewels and other treasures: a small crucifix golden enameled with an attached pearl.”
